• Informing relatives or close contacts about accidents, deaths, or disasters, and providing advice.
• Advocating for citizens detained or imprisoned and, under certain circumstances, transmitting messages to relatives.
• Protecting the interests of minors or incapacitated persons, particularly concerning guardianship or conservatorship.
• Ensuring that citizens facing trial have adequate legal defense and due process.
• Requesting information about the whereabouts of individuals from local authorities.
• Handling succession matters for citizens in cases of death.
• Attempting to communicate with relatives or close contacts to inform them of your situation and needs.
• Providing guidance on legal, medical, notarial, and other types of assistance.

What the Consular Section CANNOT Do for You?

• Act as a party in judicial proceedings or exempt you from imprisonment.
• Provide legal advice or initiate legal proceedings on your behalf.
• Secure preferential treatment in hospitals or prisons beyond what is offered to nationals of the host country.
• Perform tasks that correspond to travel agencies, airlines, banks, etc.
• Request an extension of your tourist stay abroad.
• Provide tickets or means to return to Uruguay or continue your journey elsewhere, except under very special repatriation circumstances.
• Provide money or pay your bills (hotel, legal, medical, or any other expenses).
• Arrange accommodation, residency, employment, or work permits, nor act as your guarantor or sponsor.
• Regularize your immigration status with local authorities.
