Uruguay - Türkiye

December 8, 2023, was the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and the Republic of Türkiye. Both countries agreed to set the beginning of diplomatic relations on December 8, 1933, the date of the exchange of instruments of ratification of the Treaty of Friendship signed in Rome on January 4, 1929.
 
The Republic of Türkiye established its Embassy in Montevideo and appointed its first resident Ambassador, Mr. Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, who presented his Letter of Credence in 2021.
 
In the case of Uruguay, Ambassador Hugo Cayrús was appointed in 2022 as the first Ambassador of Uruguay resident in Ankara. He presented copy of his Credentials on November 2, 2022, and his Letter of Credence on December 27, 2022.
